In response to C. Marlowe’s The Passionate Shepherd to His Love.
If all the year were like the spring
where flowers bloom and birds take wing
then I naught have to worry for the cold
perhaps I could believe this tale I’ve been told
You promise me beds of roses but forget
that all roses have thorns, you tell me not to fret
but I can’t help but wonder if there’s more
than the shallow rivers, and love like a roar
I care not for your poetry
nor the promise of a life of calm simplicity
